Oncorhyncus mykiss

The mighty steelhead is the anadromous form of the rainbow trout. Its time in the sea, and the fact that it can make multiple spawning runs, allow it to grow large and strong. As the fish moves upstream, its color changes from bright steely chrome to green and pink, like a rainbow trout. The fish illustrated here was caught in the Rogue River, Oregon.
